Holiday Hours and Closure Announcement Templates for Every Channel
When your hours change for a holiday, people need to hear it wherever they look, from your email and website to Google, social media and your front door. Miss one, and someone shows up to a locked door or waits days for a reply.
Below are short templates for each channel, plus versions for weather and temporary closures. They work for shops, studios, salons, clinics, chambers, nonprofits and offices. Replace the bracketed parts and post them at least a week ahead.
The holiday announcement checklist
- Email to customers, clients or members (7–10 days ahead)
- Banner or notice on your website
- Special hours on your Google Business Profile
- Social media post, and a reminder the day before
- Sign on your door or front desk
- Auto-reply on your email while you’re closed
- Booking system blocked out for closed days

Tips for announcements people actually notice
- Put the dates first. “Closed Dec 25” beats “Season’s greetings from all of us”.
- Say when you reopen. It’s the second thing everyone wants to know.
- Use every channel once. People check different places; the same short message everywhere is better than a long one in one place.
- Plan for messages while you’re away. An auto-reply and a link to your FAQ or help center answer the easy questions while you’re closed.
- Remove it afterward. Old holiday banners make a business look closed.
Post it once, where visitors already look
With Cove, you can post your holiday hours as an Update and pin it to the top of the What’s new tab in your website widget, so every visitor sees it. For a full closure, switch the widget to Announcement mode to show a short banner while new messages and forms are paused. Add a “Holiday hours” article to your knowledge base so the answer turns up in search too.
